She married well, buried better, and came home with the luggage. Now she keeps a small house on Madison and makes crêpes for anyone patient enough to wait.
Brewella Noir was never a simple woman.
She married well, twice, and buried better. What the settlements bought was passage — long crossings, steamer trunks, a great deal more luggage coming home than went out. Whatever caught her eye came back with her. She has never once apologized for a purchase.
She chose Lakewood because the light was good and the rent was not yet criminal. She took the smallest storefront on Madison, papered it black and white, and unpacked everything she had ever collected. Then she started making crêpes, having developed opinions about crêpes somewhere along the way.
Eight times a year she strips the room to nothing and does it over. The spiderwebs are crocheted by hand. The snowflakes are cut one at a time. She is aware this is unreasonable. She considers it the entire point.
Nineteen seats, two burners, about five minutes a crêpe. She would rather you waited for something good than hurried through something fine.
Brewella has never worked a day in her life, on account of being invented. The wallpaper is real. The shelves are real. The crêpes come out exactly as she would want them.

Northeast Ohio artists on the shelves year round, at prices she considers fair. The roster changes when the wall does.
